Here are 13 ways you can turn your Google Business Profile into a 24/7 marketing and lead generation tool for your local business.


Create a GoogleMy Business account

 Google Business Profile is a separate entity. It is not part of a Google My Business account. Google My Business will let you gain access and optimize your Google Business Profile. First, you must have a Google My Business account. Next, direct Google to connect it with your Google Business Profile. Using Google.com/business, sign in with the regular Google/Gmail account you use for your business.

Complete every section

This helps with Google ranking and increases visitor interaction. Be thorough. Completeness is important. Be sure to include:

  1. Business Category and Attributes
  2. Products and services
  3. From the business
  4. Questions and answers. These are queries generated by the owner.

Provide accurate information

Google penalizes inconsistencies. On your Google Business Profile:

    1. Business names must match store signage exactly.
    2. Be certain business name and address are exactly the same as other listings.
    3. Describe both regular and holiday hours.

      1. Be sure to use all 750 characters. Place key information in the first250 characters.
      2. Rework the content from your “About Us” page or mission statement.
      3. Choose keywords readers would use to find your business category. Avoid duplication of material from other sections. Focus on what makes your business unique.
      4. Avoid links or HTML.

Choose a category

    1. This is vital for Google Business Profile optimization. Almost 85% of Business Profile views on Google come from discovery searches. Potential customers do a Google search by category. If yours isn’t explicit, your business may not come up in their search.
    2. Highlight category-specific features. From your category selection, Google will give you category-specific features. Choose wisely from list. These details often determine whether your business is selected over your competitors.
    3. Be specific. Don’t say restaurant. State the type like ‘American breakfast-lunch diner’ or ‘Fifties-style cafeteria’ or ‘evening fine dining restaurant’. You will be offered a drop-down list of categories when you start to type. Google My Business also has a complete list.

    6. Don’t confuse categories with products or attributes.
